  5. If we would like to request pre-award spending authority, do we include any statement to that effect in the actual proposal?
  6. My intent is to develop a proposal that fits under Category #2 and addresses Topic #2 for our service area! Is this the correct sort of alignment that is being requested?

  11. The RFP asks for service learning data at the college-wide level. We have good reliable data for service learning and volunteer projects and hours at department level. We would like to use this data for the purposes of this grant. Gathering the data for the entire university and its sundry colleges and schools might be problematic.
  12. Do we need to show greater STATEWIDE/REGIONAL impact for purposes of the grant? We suspect that we will have national impact eventually, but that would be after development phase.
  13. Where does one insert the budget narrative? I didn't see a section designated as such in the electronic application.
  14. Does Florida Campus Compact have a sponsor solicitation number? Our office of sponsored research internal clearance forms is asking for it if there is an RFP involved.
  15. I have one letter of support in my possession. I am still waiting for two more that will be given to me by tomorrow. My question is: Do all original letters of support need to be by tomorrow or is there any flexibility to have them scanned and sent as a PDF file with my original hard copy mailed to Dee Dee?

  1. MEMBER: What is the Service-Learning Leadership Academy and how would it work on our campus?

FL|CC: As stated in the RFP, the Service-Learning Leadership Academy is a student leadership development program FL|CC is looking to pilot in the upcoming year. It can be implemented in a variety of ways depending on how the educational institution determines the program will succeed on their campus. This can include making it part of a freshman experience class, senior capstone project, or supplements to current service-learning and/or leadership classes.

FL|CC can assist in the creation of a leadership team to guide the strategic planning of the Academy. The leadership team would develop a well-coordinated series of planning sessions to determine the direction, scope, and reach of the Academy. Planning sessions will be facilitated to develop curriculum and create practical methods of delivery in four program categories of focus:
    • Strategic Communications, Media, and Community Outreach
    • Public Policy Development
    • Philanthropy, Volunteer Leadership, and Non-Profit Management
    • Community Demographics, Research, and Professional Practice

FL|CC can also assist in the recruitment of experts in each of these program categories to form a panel that will share expertise, help create outlines for curriculum, recommend options for methods of delivery, and design structures for working at the university and community levels to develop practical skills in each of the four areas of focus. Each of these offerings will be evaluated for its impact on the participants.

  1. Member: The number of points adds up to 95points. Is this the intended sum?

    FL|CC: Yes.

  1. Member: What are the criteria used to determine at what funding level projects will be funded? Is it highest points or highest points and budget requested by applicant for example.

FL|CC: It will be a combination of highest points scored, recommendations of the review panel, and availability of funding.

  1. Member: Please explain paragraph 1. Does this mean that there is the possibility of multi-year funding beyond the first year funded via Campus Compact and, if so, will that funding come from Florida State University?

FL|CC: At this time, there is a pot of $200,000 that will be awarded to cover projects that can span until June of 2008. Awarded projects will receive one award amount that is not currently renewable. We have structured these funds to offer a little more flexibility for planning time and implementation.

Florida State University is our fiscal agent and funds are dispersed through subcontracts between the awarded institution and Florida State University. Any future funding will be directed in a similar fashion. Please note that the funding is secured by Florida Campus Compact and are coming from FL|CC accounts administered by Florida State University. FL|CC continuously seeks funding that can be used to support the efforts of our member campuses. As noted in the RFP, this is a first round of Impact Projects that we seek to fund. If FL|CC is successful in securing additional funding, we will be able to offer another round of grants. Depending on the feedback provided by our members, a second round of grants may have the option to renew funding for existing projects.

  1. Member: If we would like to request pre-award spending authority, do we include any statement to that effect in the actual proposal?

FL|CC: This does not have to be stated in the original proposal.

  1. Member: My intent is to develop a proposal that fits under Category #2 and addresses Topic #2 for our service area! Is this the correct sort of alignment that is being requested?

FL|CC: Based off of previous discussions, your institution could definitely apply under category 2 and the plans you have could easily fit in topic 2. I also see some overlap in topics 1 and 3. Please note, you do not have to address only one topic, nor are applicants expected to incorporate more than one in their proposals.

  1. Member: Any tips for the e-grants system? I have never used the state's system.

FL|CC: As far as the system goes, this is actually not a state e-grants system but rather something FL|CC has created. All of the fields follow the checklist offered on page 11. The only recommendation I would make for completing the grant would be to type the proposal up into a Word document and then copy and paste it into the online form. There are no special requirements or logons needed in order to access the online application.

  1. Member: When "Done" is hit at the end of the application package, is the proposal automatically sent to the agency?

FL|CC: Yes. After the last online form has been completed, the final page will provide the following text: "Thank you. Your proposal has been saved. To submit your proposal, please either close this window or click "done" to return for Florida Campus Compact's website.

If you would like to review your proposal before submitting it, please utilize the "back" buttons to make any necessary edits and then return to this page to save your edits and submit your proposal."

  1. Member: Is the CDR a CD with the fully scanned proposal on it?

FL|CC: Yes, but please note that you should only submit a CDR with the proposal saved to it if you are not using our online e-Grants program.

  1. Member: Once the application package is submitted how does an applicant print a "hard" copy from the system?

FL|CC: Aside from printing each screen as you go through the form, there is no direct way to print a "hard" copy from the system. If you would like a hard copy, please send me an email after it has been submitted and we will be happy to email you a copy saved in a Word format.

  1. Member: The RFP asks for service learning data at the college-wide level. We have good reliable data for service learning and volunteer projects and hours at department level. We would like to use this data for the purposes of this grant. Gathering the data for the entire university and its sundry colleges and schools might be problematic.

FL|CC: Please feel free to simply provide the data you have available. We understand the difficulty in gathering college-wide information on these types of activities. We will notify the reviewers that the data provided is only for one department within your institution.

  1. Member: Do we need to show greater STATEWIDE/REGIONAL impact for purposes of the grant? We suspect that we will have national impact eventually, but that would be after development phase.

FL|CC: We hope and believe that the projects funded will serve as models for local, national and international programming. That said, and considering the character limitations of the RFP, we encourage applicants to include information critical to well representing the proposed activities while also being concise.

  1. Member: Where does one insert the budget narrative? I didn't see a section designated as such in the electronic application.

FL|CC: There was a small issue with our text boxes for the budget narrative which has been corrected. They should appear after the budget summary boxes.
  1. Member: Does Florida Campus Compact have a sponsor solicitation number? Our office of sponsored research internal clearance forms is asking for it if there is an RFP involved.

FL|CC: The CFDA number for both funding sources is 84.166. There is no RFP sponsor solicitation number.
  1. Member: I have one letter of support in my possession. I am still waiting for two more that will be given to me by tomorrow. My question is: Do all original letters of support need to be by tomorrow or is there any flexibility to have them scanned and sent as a PDF file with my original hard copy mailed to Dee Dee?

FL|CC: We definitely try to be flexible whenever we can; your proposed plan of action to get the letters to us works for us.
