Coastal Carolina University Call for Proposals for 2nd Annual Civic-Learning Conference

Call for Proposals Submission Deadline: February 15, 2008

You are invited to submit a proposal for the Second Annual Civic Learning Conference on Service-Learning, Community Service and Civic Engagement initiatives between higher education institutions and K-12 schools and between 2-year and 4-year higher education institutions. The Conference will be held on March 14, 2008, at Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, SC. with funding provided by the South Carolina Higher Education Commission.

Through 50-minute thematic sessions and poster displays, presenters are asked to share their programs, projects, research or best practices in improving student success of K-16 students by increasing the graduation rate.

Student Scholars' Institute: Millennial Talk in Tallahassee "Plugging into the Public Discourse"

This Institute will give a limited number of students a chance to directly connect with their government in more personal and meaningful ways. Selected participants will have unique opportunities to interact with policy makers, elected officials and dignitaries.

Special showcase sessions will highlight programs in the state that reach out and make a difference in the lives of K-12 students and provide services or support to assist those students to reach or obtain higher education. Those special showcase sessions will be part of a competitive grant opportunity to provide monetary support to assist with the creation and operation of a theme-related conference/workshop in their neighboring community.
