8th Annual Move-Out Drive at Barry University

With the theme of “Donate, Don’t Dump”, the Move Out Drive is a yearly event that provides Barry University students with the opportunity to donate gently used items that they no longer want or cannot take with them as they move off campus at the end of the academic year. FL|CC AmeriCorps VISTA member Shernee Bellamy, who serves in the Office of Mission Engagement, spearheaded the planning and coordination of marketing and promotion, supply collection, and institutional support of the drive. VISTA member Ashton Spangler, who serves in the Center for Community Service Initiatives, coordinated with community partners to compile requested items and arrange donation pick-ups.
Among the donations collected in the nine day drive were 2361 pounds of clothes, 570 pounds of shoes, 318 pounds of food, 15 mini-refrigerators, 10 micro-waves, 96 formal dresses, 181 books, 194 bed sheets, 265 towels, and 107 blankets and comforters. The donations were received by 11 non-profit organizations around Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
